Mount Med Resort joins Healing Hotels with diagnostics-led longevity concept

The Austrian medical wellness retreat combines preventive medicine, personalised diagnostics and regenerative therapies in a former monastery in the Tyrolean Alps

Mount Med Resort in Austria has joined Healing Hotels of the World, strengthening the international collection's medical wellness and longevity portfolio. The resort in Tyrol's Wildschönau valley takes a diagnostics-first approach, with individual treatment programmes developed following an assessment of each guest's health status.

Located in a former monastery with a history stretching back around 850 years, Mount Med combines a medical centre with a 3,500-square-metre medical spa and an Alpine retreat environment. Its focus includes preventive and regenerative medicine, nutrition, sports medicine and orthopaedics, healthy ageing and medically supervised lifestyle programmes.

Diagnostics before treatment

Rather than beginning with a predetermined menu of spa treatments, stays are structured around medical diagnostics and consultation. The results are used to develop an individual programme incorporating relevant medical, nutritional, physical and regenerative interventions.

The resort has its own diagnostics centre, eight medical consultation rooms and a resident medical team. Its treatment infrastructure includes physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and facilities for cryotherapy, oxygen and infusion therapies alongside conventional spa and movement areas.

This approach reflects a wider development in medical wellness, where traditional spa services are increasingly being combined with diagnostics, preventive medicine and personalised health programmes.

Prevention, mobility and metabolic health

Mount Med's programmes target different aspects of preventive health and recovery. These include Prevention & Vitality, Detox & Weight Management, Ortho Mobility & Motion and programmes focused on healthy ageing and aesthetics. Shorter preventive stays are also available.

The concept extends beyond relaxation and wellness. Guests may undergo assessments related to metabolic health, physical condition and other health parameters before receiving an individually structured programme.

Nutrition forms another component of the approach. Personalised meal plans are based on medical and metabolic assessments and are intended to support the objectives identified during the diagnostic process.

Medical wellness in an Alpine setting

The resort combines its clinical facilities with the characteristics of a destination wellness retreat. Its 60 rooms, suites and chalet suites are surrounded by the mountains and forests of the Wildschönau valley, while activities include hiking, cycling, yoga, meditation and supervised exercise.

The combination illustrates the increasingly blurred boundary between preventive healthcare, medical wellness and hospitality. Instead of treating the spa as an additional hotel facility, Mount Med places diagnostics and preventive health at the centre of the guest journey, while the surrounding environment provides the setting for recovery and lifestyle change.

Its admission to Healing Hotels of the World also gives the Austrian resort greater international visibility within the specialist wellness travel market. Mount Med opened in 2024 and has since positioned itself around preventive diagnostics, longevity and medically guided programmes.

For the medical travel sector, the concept reflects growing interest in programmes that address health before acute treatment becomes necessary. The emphasis is consequently less on treating disease than on assessing risk factors, improving mobility and metabolic health, supporting recovery and encouraging sustainable lifestyle changes.
