Cleveland Clinic strengthens Abu Dhabi’s healthcare position

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi leads UAE hospitals in five specialties in Newsweek’s 2027 global ranking, while 15 hospitals from the Emirates appear in the international lists

Abu Dhabi has gained further international recognition as a destination for advanced medical care, with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi ranking first among hospitals in the UAE in five specialties in Newsweek’s World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2027. The hospital achieved the country’s highest positions in cardiac surgery, cardiology, nephrology, neurology and pulmonology.

The results are particularly relevant to the UAE’s ambitions in international healthcare and medical tourism, as several of the recognized specialties involve complex treatments for which patients frequently travel across borders. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi also appears in the global ranking for oncology, adding cancer care to its internationally assessed fields of expertise.

Five specialties lead the UAE rankings

The World’s Best Specialized Hospitals rankings are produced by Newsweek in collaboration with Statista and assess hospitals across 13 medical specialties.

For Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the 2027 edition marks its first appearance in the global specialized hospital rankings. The result follows its inclusion in Newsweek’s Best Specialized Hospitals Middle East 2026 rankings.

“Being recognized among the world’s best specialized hospitals for the first time is an important milestone and reflects our commitment to delivering exceptional care across Abu Dhabi, the UAE, and the wider region,” said Dr. Georges-Pascal Haber, Chief Executive Officer of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

“Recognition across five specialties is a testament to the depth of our clinical expertise and the strength of our teams in delivering complex care at the highest standards.”

Complex care supports Abu Dhabi’s international role

Several of the hospital’s strongest fields are particularly significant for international patients seeking highly specialized treatment.

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has four Centers of Excellence recognized by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi. They cover adult cardiac surgery, stroke, adult multi-organ transplantation and breast cancer.

Its presence in the oncology ranking also reflects the expansion of cancer services at the hospital’s Fatima bint Mubarak Center, which provides comprehensive cancer care.

The hospital additionally holds international accreditations and distinctions including the Joint Commission International Gold Seal of Approval and an American College of Cardiology International Center of Excellence designation.

UAE hospitals increase their global presence

The results extend beyond a single institution. A total of 15 hospitals from the UAE appear in Newsweek’s 2027 global specialized hospital rankings, providing another indication of the country’s expanding capabilities in advanced medical care.

For Abu Dhabi, developing complex treatment, research, medical education and clinical innovation forms part of a broader effort to establish the emirate as an international healthcare hub.

The growing concentration of specialized services in fields such as cardiovascular medicine, transplantation, neurology and oncology also strengthens Abu Dhabi’s proposition for patients from the Middle East and other international markets who require treatment beyond routine medical care.
