Sanatoriums generated around $175 million in 2025, while Belarus plans to expand capacity by 30% and accommodate up to two million guests annually from 2030
Health and spa tourism has become one of the most important segments of Belarus's tourism economy. The country's sanatoriums generated 536 million Belarusian rubles, approximately $175 million, in 2025 and accounted for around half of total tourism revenue, according to Henadz Baubatouski, Director of the Republican Center for Health Improvement and Sanatorium-Resort Treatment of the Population.
The figures underline the economic importance of a sector rooted in the extensive network of health resorts inherited from the Soviet era. Belarus currently has 285 health-improving facilities with a combined capacity of 60,400 beds, attracting both domestic guests and a substantial number of foreign visitors.
Sanatorium prices fall in 2026
In the second half of 2025, guests paid an average of 145 Belarusian rubles per bed-day. In 2026, the average daily price has fallen to 97 rubles, equivalent to around $33.
Health tourism accounts for approximately 50% of Belarus's tourism services exports each year. In 2025, the country's sanatoriums accommodated 1.56 million guests. More than 760,000 purchased their stays without using budget funds, while around 200,000 visitors came from abroad.
Foreign demand has continued in 2026. Since the beginning of the year, around 45,000 international guests have stayed at Belarusian sanatoriums, representing approximately 32% of all visitors. Russians form the largest group, although guests also arrive from Germany, Lithuania and the United States.
Belarus plans 30% expansion by 2030
Authorities intend to significantly increase the country's health tourism capacity in response to demand. The sanatorium network is scheduled to expand by 30% by 2030, with new facilities planned in every region of Belarus.
From 2030, the sector aims to accommodate as many as two million people annually. Compared with the 1.56 million guests recorded in 2025, this would represent an increase of roughly 28%.
The expansion would further strengthen the role of health resorts within Belarus's tourism industry, where sanatorium stays already account for around half of tourism revenue and a similarly large share of tourism services exports.
